Cellab  |

Cellab is a two-week installation in Old Melbourne Gaol, Cell 09

Cellab aims to realise the literature embedded in this once-upon-a-time secluded site. Over time, the form of the installation drifts from experimental performance to object display and then to messages carried by site visitors. The tangible presence of the object symbolises the inmate’s restrained life whereas the program conveys the possibilities of their journey in consciousness. Cellab transforms a historical space into a poetic spatial reformation of object-space-human relations, questioning the disjoint between Old Melbourne Gaol’s accumulated historical layers and modern sensibility shown in modern tourism.
