Weave |

To Weave is a 20-minute interactive performance by Jill Zheng (poet), Jacob Charles (kinesthetic music), Cell & Art (animation) and me (installation). It is the first half of a two-fold collaborative project Enliven生生 directed by Jill Zheng, giving life to her visual poems.

To Weave seeks to create an immersive experience. It explores the emergence of life as 'weaving into a new relationship' through the lens of an incubating egg. Footages of organic textures in the hidden worlds were projected on the egg-like installation with a poem reader hidden inside. She then crawled out of the “shell”, initiating the braiding of participants’ voices together with the clauses, creating a woven soundscape for all the present.

Due to the high humidity during Shanghai summer, the cure time of the paper mache has been lengthened significantly, causing the hollow form of the installation extremely fragile to its environment, and deformed completely after the emergence of the poet. The seemingly technique failure presented the power of natural force, added another layer to the project: We are parts in the existential dependence upon the whole world-organism.
